Increase the competitiveness of U.S. lamb and reclaim import market share

The 2022 U.S. Lamb Summit in East Lansing, Michigan addressed many important topics, including the challenges and opportunities for the U.S. lamb industry to increase its competitiveness.

Nick Forrest is a sheep farmer and former American Lamb Board member from Oxford, Ohio.

“They need to learn more about their race,” Forrest said. “They need to learn about the opportunities of this breed like genetics. Some breeds can’t weigh up to 150 pounds and some breeds stop at 110 pounds. So you need to know when those lambs are ready to market. And we need to do a better job of teaching producers when their lambs are ready to go kill at that optimum weight and there’s no fat on them and get that flavor with that lamb.
