Tulsans of the Year: Bixby star Braylin Presley is dazzling, accomplished and ambitious | Tulsa World Magazine

As a part-time employee of an ice cream shop in downtown Bixby, he hears customers whispering, “Is that Braylin Presley behind the counter?” I think it’s Braylin Presley.

It’s actually Braylin Presley behind the counter.

When he wasn’t making dazzling plays as a senior for the Bixby high school football program, he was having ice cream treats. A labor of love.

“Oh yeah. I really, really love ice cream,” said Presley, whose favorites are the Strawberry Shortcake and Pineapple-Cherry Pecan Shortcake. “If people come in and know who I am, I am. I don’t do much of it, and I’m not afraid of it either.

“Recently there was a family of four with a few young boys. They came in and recognized me. We spoke for 10 minutes. I can be good at football, but it’s more important to be a good human. It is much more important than football.

When Presley graduates in May, he will do so as one of the most accomplished athletes in Tulsa area football history.

Along with Bixby’s quest for a fourth straight state championship, Presley came up with a personal accolade – becoming the first Tulsa County football player to twice win the Tulsa World Player of the Year award.

Presley and his older brother already have a cool distinction. Before Braylin was Tulsa World Player of the Year 2020, Brennan Presley won the same award in 2019. Brennan is now a second wide receiver at Oklahoma State.

The only other brothers to each have been selected as the State’s Player of the Year at Tulsa World were Mike Gundy (1985) and Cale Gundy (1989) of Midwest City.

Over a summer breakfast at the Presley Kitchen table, Arthur Presley first learned that his sons and the Gundy brothers are bonded.

“Why did I just hear that? Arthur said. “It’s pretty cool. It’s amazing, really.

As Braylin spent the first 12 years of his life in Tulsa and the last five in Bixby, he has fans, friends and acquaintances everywhere. His siblings and parents too. Older brother Brandon played football at Booker T. Washington. Older sisters Britney and Brandee were decorated as track and field athletes before Braylin and Brennan became football stars.

Currently in eighth grade, Braeden Presley is the younger brother and at the same level of football talent occupied by his brothers.

The mother of the Presley children – Tia Presley – was a basketball and track and field athlete at Booker T. Washington. Arthur Presley is a former running back for Hale and for 29 years has been a Mechanical Journeyman for the City of Tulsa.

“Eventually I want to get into architecture and marketing,” Braylin says of life after football. “People think I’m crazy when I say that, but before I’m 40, I want to be a millionaire.

“I want to be in a position where my parents, sisters and brothers will never have to work another day in their life. I want to take care of the next generation of Presley.
