xMEMS announces Cowell, the world’s smallest MEMS speaker for TWS applications and hearing aids
SANTA CLARA, Calif .– (COMMERCIAL THREAD) – xMEMS Labs today introduced Cowell, the world’s smallest monolithic MEMS speaker. At just 22mm3, 56 milligrams and with a 3.4mm diameter side-release case, Cowell delivers an impressive SPL of 110dB at 1kHz. Cowell provides up to 15dB of gain above 1kHz for improved speech-in-noise performance and greater vocal and instrumental clarity compared to electrodynamic and balanced armature speakers. Cowell is the first speaker to use xMEMS ‘2sd M2 generation loudspeaker cell architecture providing improved SPL / mm2 allowing for increased volume in smaller form factors. Cowell engineering samples are available now, with mass production beginning in the second quarter of 2022.

For hearing aid applications, Cowell is a full range loudspeaker 45% smaller than an equivalent balanced armature receiver, making in-channel receiver applications possible. Cowell’s superior high-frequency response, the absence of in-band resonance peaks, and a 15dB gain above 1kHz make it an ideal speaker for treating high-frequency hearing loss and improving performance. intelligibility of speech in noise.
